Liv is a cool, confident, social butterfly who loves to sing, while Maddie is a smart, athletic, high school basketball phenomenon who prefers high tops over high heels. Complicating matters for the Rooney kids is having both parents work at their high school. Dad Pete is a P.E. teacher and girls' basketball coach, and mom Karen is a school counselor.
Rounding out the family are younger brothers, Joey, a high school teenager who touts his own brand of cool, and Parker, a creative kid known for stirring up mischief.
With Liv home again, the twins are sharing the same bedroom, and it doesn't take long for Maddie to realize that small spaces can be confining, especially with a sister who's used to being in the spotlight. As Maddie continues to excel both at school and as the girls' basketball team's newly appointed captain, Liv can't resist inserting herself into situations where she feels Maddie could use a little "help." Though Liv and Maddie have wildly different personalities, dreams and aspirations, the bond between the sisters is unbreakable, and together -- with the help of their family – they’re able to accomplish most anything.
